Hawk & Owl Trust

Cotleigh Brewery has been a loyal supporter of 'The Hawk and Owl Trust' for many years and actively seeks to generate more awareness of the Trusts' valuable work. To date the Brewery has raised over £16,000 to assist the Trust.

The Trust was founded in 1969 because of concerns about the alarming decline in numbers of Peregrines and other raptors in the UK. Today they are the only British charity working to conserve all wild birds of prey, including owls, in the face of mounting human pressures.

The Trust's officers work closely with local community groups, bringing bird of prey conservation into the lives of people of all ages. Together with their partners they maintain a constant effort in raising awareness of the needs of these wonderful birds.

The Hawk and Owl Trust's Conservation Officer is Naturalist and Broadcaster, Chris Sperring MBE. Chris is one of the country's leading authorities on owls and has dedicated his whole life to bird of prey conservation.

His Barn Owl work in the South West helped to raise the profile on this once threatened owl and the road signs depicting 'low flying owls' are folklore in the Portishead area. Chris now leads the campaign to raise awareness of the Long-Eared Owl and continues to lobby for more protection and conservation awareness of this secretive species.
